Cooking croutons for breakfast:

Step 1: Cut bread for croutons.

As a rule, slightly crusted white bread is used for toast. There are, of course, exceptions - for example, in America, thanksgiving is made from corn bread on Thanksgiving. You can try this option.

Nobody forbids to take black bread, too, but in this case the option of making sweet croutons disappears. Although, all tastes are for everybody.

So, take a loaf of bread or a loaf of white bread and cut into neat pieces of medium thickness. The crust can be cut or left, if desired.


Step 2: Prepare egg and milk batter for croutons.

Break eggs into a deep plate, add milk, salt and add sugar to taste. Mix or whisk properly. The neutral mixture, in which we will soak the croutons before frying, is ready. Depending on whether you want to prepare sweet croutons or salted, further the ingredients differ. For salty croutons the following additional ingredients can be added to the mixture: greens, both dried and chopped, black or red ground pepper. For sweet: vanillin, cinnamon.

Step 3: Fry the croutons.

Dip each piece of bread in the resulting mixture, you can leave the bread to lie in batter, so that it is properly soaked. Next, I offer several options for making croutons.
Option 1: Croutons with cheese. We get the pieces of bread from the egg-milk mixture, put on a hot frying pan, fry until golden brown on one side, turn over and sprinkle the prepared side with grated cheese. We cover the frying pan with a lid, wait for the cheese to melt, take out the croutons and serve.
Option 2: Croutons with sour cream, tomatoes and herbs. Add chopped greens to the egg-milk mixture, soak the bread in batter, spread and fry in a pan until golden brown. We prepare the crouton sauce in this way: squeeze a clove of garlic into sour cream, add salt and pepper. Coat each crouton with this sauce and garnish with tomato slices.
Option 3: Croutons with apple and aromatic spices. Add more sugar and vanillin to the crouton mixture. And in the prepared fried croutons, add the grated apple and sprinkle with a mixture of powdered sugar and cinnamon.
Option 4: Croutons stuffed with cheese and sausage. Prepared in the same way as croutons with cheese. Soak the bread and fry until only one side. On the unroasted side, put the filling of grated cheese and chopped sausage, pour a spoonful of egg mixture, turn over and fry until cooked. You can also decorate croutons with greens. Of course, the preparation of croutons is not limited to the above options. You can replace sour cream with mayonnaise, tomatoes with cucumbers, sausage bacon or ham. Add crushed garlic to the grated cheese. By the way, cheese can be used both processed and regular. You can cover fried croutons with jam or add mashed berry there. Imagine, try and find your favorite cooking option for this wonderful dish.

Step 4: Serve the croutons for breakfast.

Serve croutons hot or warm. Ready-made and decorated croutons are well suited for tea, coffee or cocoa. Enjoy your meal!

Recipe Tips:

- When you fry the croutons, make sure that the fire is not too big, so that the crouton is fried from the inside before it is finally ready outside.

- Sweet croutons are more high-calorie, keep this in mind.

- The most useful are croutons from bran bread. They stimulate the intestines.
